Sometimes, when you’ve got an appetite, only a great steak will do. Fortunately, there are some awesome steakhouses around Kansas City. Here are four of the best the city has to offer.

pierpont’s at union station
The historical and elegant Pierpont’s at Union Station, named for J. Pierpont Morgan, the railroad baron, is situated in a beautifully restored building. Originally built in 1914, the 8,000 square foot restaurant has seating for 200 people. As well as the main dining room, individually designed wine cellar rooms offer space for private dining. A focal point of the restaurant is the 30-foot-tall mahogany bar.

In addition to perfectly aged steaks, a variety of fresh seafood is flown in daily. The menu features appetizers such as braised rabbit, steamed mussels, and citrus-marinated yellowtail. Steaks include filet mignon, Kansas City strip, and rib eye. As an alternative to meat, you could try the lobster risotto, scallops, or grilled salmon.

801 chophouse
Located on East 14th Street, the 801 Chophouse offers upscale dining with the signature leather booths and tasteful lighting giving the restaurant an intimate, elegant but comfortable ambiance. The friendly and knowledgeable servers provide discreet and professional service. If you let them know that you’re celebrating a birthday or anniversary, they will strive to make the occasion even more special.

Among the appetizers, you’ll find oysters, fried calamari, and carpaccio. The steaks offered include a 24- or 40-ounce Porterhouse, and a 24-ounce bone-in Delmonico, or you could go for the double-cut Colorado lamb chops. You can choose accompaniments like bearnaise, Maytag blue cheese, black truffle butter, or foie gras.

the majestic restaurant
Combining the best Kansas City steaks and the finest jazz music, The Majestic Restaurant is located in the historic 1911 Fitzpatrick Saloon building. It features a 40-foot long bar from New Orleans that dates back to 1900, while the downstairs jazz club has an 1880 bar. An oil-on-canvas mural depicts famous people with strong ties to Kansas City.

The menu has appetizers like spinach and artichoke dip, grilled mushroom flatbread, and bison carpaccio. From the USDA dry-aged steaks, you can choose pepper-encrusted filet mignon, prime rib, Argentinian-style black Angus rib eye, and American wagyu. Alternatively, you could have Scottish salmon or New Zealand lamb chops.

the capital grille
Although it’s a chain, The Capital Grille on Country Club Plaza doesn’t look or feel like it. The low-lit Art-Deco chandeliers and African mahogany paneling provide a comfortably elegant ambiance with service to match. The dry-aged steaks, fresh seafood, and world-class wines provide you with an amazing dining experience.

The dinner menu offers appetizers including lobster and crab cakes, fresh oysters, and a cold shellfish platter. The chef’s suggestions have such delights as sliced filet mignon with cipollini onions, wild mushrooms, and fig essence; porcini-rubbed bone-in rib eye with 15-year aged balsamic; and seared tenderloin with butter-poached lobster tails.

These are just a few of Kansas City’s wonderful restaurants that specialize in steaks and that will never leave you feeling hungry.
