where to find the best barbecue around kansas city
Kansas City is so famous for their barbecue that the name has become synonymous with the cuisine. If you’re new to the area, it can be difficult to pick out a restaurant from the countless barbecue joints in the city.
Our team at Airport CDJR loves good barbecue, and we’ve tried them all. Here are just a few of our favorite barbecue places in Kansas City.
joe’s kansas city bar-b-que
This is one of the most renowned barbecue joints in all of Kansas City. Housed in an old gas station, Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que has been serving top-notch barbecue since 1996. Grab a fantastic barbecue sandwich with pulled pork, smoked turkey, brisket, and more. If you want a full dinner, their ribs and burnt end, Hogamaniac, and two-meat dinners are some of the best you’ll find in town.
Joe’s original location on 3002 W. 47th Ave. is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
arthur bryant’s barbecue
Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue is another classic barbecue restaurant that you shouldn’t miss. Their creations are so tasty that they have attracted three former presidents, securing its status as one of the top barbecue hot spots in Kansas City. Barbecue sandwiches, classic sides, awesome meat trays, and more fill Arthur Bryant’s menu. Take a bottle of one the restaurant’s famous sauces home with you.
Arthur Bryant’s original location at 1727 Brooklyn Ave. is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Gate’s Bar-B-Q is one of the most popular restaurants in Kansas City. Slabs, center-cuts, short-ends, long-ends, chicken, mutton — the specialty meats they serve hot and fresh goes on. Pick up a double-decker sandwich with a side of potato salad and barbecue beans, and you’re sure to come back for more.
Gate’s has multiple locations all around Kansas City, each with their own hours of operation. Find the one closest to you and show up any time after 11 a.m. for a great barbecue lunch.
danny edwards blvd bbq
Danny Edwards BLVD BBQ stays true to its heritage and has been doing barbecue right for over 30 years. They pride themselves on taking the time to create the best barbecue experience possible. If you want something simple, try one of their delicious barbecue sandwiches. We recommend the Big D, which was featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” If you want to go all-out, grab one of the barbecue plates: burnt ends, half-chicken, ribs, and more. Top of your visit with some homemade bread pudding or brownies.
Danny Edwards is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday, so make sure you get there early enough to get a seat. Because of the high quality of their food and limited hours, this restaurant is often packed with customers.
